Cookies, Kids & 31 days- day 4

What is the big deal with using up a bag of chocolate chips and making cookies with the kids? Really- that is combining 'faith and works?' Isn't a wifely vocation more than that? I suppose, but today my vocation was all about that. It was working nicely with a 5 year old and a 3 year old. It was letting them crack the eggs. It was keeping their fingers safe from the working Kitchen Aid. It was saying sweetly again and again "Please don't eat the raw batter" and "the cookies will be done in 10, 9, 8, etc minutes."

“One of the gravest errors of our time is the dichotomy between the faith which many profess and the practice of their daily lives…  The Christian who shirks his temporal duties shirks his duties towards his neighbor, neglects God himself, and endangers his eternal salvation.  Let Christians follow the example of Christ who worked as a craftsman; let them be proud of the opportunity to carry out their earthly activity in such a way as to integrate human, domestic, professional, scientific and technical enterprises with religious values, under whose supreme direction all things are ordered to the glory of God.” – Second Vatican Council, Gaudium et Spes

  2. This is so sweet. I hope the cookies turn out well. It's nice for the kids to help. The quote from Vatican II is wonderful. Thanks.

    1. well- the cookies were fine (nothing like my younger sister's - I have to get her recipe) but it reminded me I need to bake more with the kids

    2. Baking with the kids is wonderful. When I'm baking with my own kids, we tend to make pie instead of cookies, though.
