Pretty Happy Funny Real Contentment

Pretty & Happy- Isn't this the picture of contentment? Big Sister #1 is reading a Mo Willems' book to the little kids. All of his books (our hands-down favorites are the Elephant and Piggie series) make great, short read-alouds for the little ones to enjoy. My dramatic big girls love having an excuse to read them aloud as well. Thank goodness Shakespeare class has started up for them again.

Real- we don't really have a brisk, crisp Fall like much of the United States. A new strawberry crop was planted across the street yesterday. So, poor me, I have to experience the season through, yes, pumpkin-flavored everything and these very cute tissue paper box designs. I like the owls the best, of course.

  2. Ah, your "funny" had me laughing. Although I couldn't find the pumpkin spice creamer at my grocer's the other day (my husband would be shocked--he'd hoped he'd cured me of such abominations by pointing out that regular half-and-half has so many less additives), I did see Peppermint Mocha. That appalled me. I'd rather have a few months of Pumpkin first, thanks!

    1. Another thing that is great for new readers in the Elephant and Piggie books- words spoken by Elephant are grey and words from Piggie are pink- I thought that was clever

    1. I bet he liked the cute duckling- I'm working out my budget and I think that some pumpkin pie spice plus maple syrup (?) would taste good to make a pumpkin latter at home- $4 coffee is NOT happening

  7. I'm inspired to get a can of pumpkin and a can of Milnot the next time I'm at the store, even though no one in my family likes pumpkin pie except me!

Also, my daughter would like to know what your dog's name is!

    1. ...more for you! It makes the perfect breakfast

His name is Duke (like a prince, not like John Wayne)

  8. Mo Willems has got a good thing going - his books are very popular here at the library. (even with dogs, I guess!)

Guess you'll be getting a lot of beta carotene all winter - a good thing! :)

  9. We don't get a real autumn, either, so we are making up with decoration for it. I saw some fun hand print ideas for it on Pinterest, including one with an owl.

  10. "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!" Psalm 133. I love the first picture!

I miss the Southern California fall- the change in winds, "the Santa Ana"s, the rich gold of summer as it mellows into soft brown and the ground prepares for the winter rains, going to the beach to walk or sit instead of swim, the change in produce at the farmers market... try not to pine too much for pumpkins and New England. You have seasons too... they are just a little more subtle.

    1. Amy- about the farmer's market- I finally signed up for the CSA veggie box- it's fun to see the seasons change a little bit...but no cabbage yet!
