"Mother is the name for God in the lips and hearts of little children."
--William Makepeace Thackeray"A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon us when adversity takes the place of prosperity when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts."

"A mother's love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path."

I love this. Thanks. Just what I needed to read this morning after waking up crabby and cross.
ReplyDeleteThis is my favorite mommy quote:
ReplyDelete"The most important person on earth is a mother. She cannot claim the honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not. She has built something more magnificent than any cathedral--a dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby's body . . . The angels have not been blessed with such a grace. They cannot share in God's creative miracle to bring new saints to Heaven. Only a human mother can. Mothers are closer to God the Creator than any other creature; God joins forces with mothers in performing this act of creation . . . What on God's good earth is more glorious than this; to be a mother?"
--Joszef Cardinal Mindszenty
Do you see the name "calah" it's a nickname in our family very interesting. I needed the reminder.
ReplyDeleteDSM- That's the quotation I was trying to find! Thanks
ReplyDeleteCalah- The words are inspiring- but it makes me nervous- being a mom is FULL of responsibility
"What the mother sings to the cradle goes all the way down to the coffin."
ReplyDelete-- Henry Ward Beecher
This one made me laugh (and maybe cringe a little). I always sing Bob Dylan when I can't think of a proper lullaby...
These are beautiful quotes! These individuals all give so much credit to their mothers in helping to make them the virtuous people they were in life. Children can really benefit from being with their mothers and listening to their instruction.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure counting on the second qoute to be true.If so,I should not have one more concern for thier souls.
ReplyDeleteThat Cardinal Mindszenty quote is one of my favorites! A great pro-life quote, too!
ReplyDeleteI love this collection of quotes as well. Very inspiring indeed. Thank you for bringing them together in this post!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I just began reading your blog and it's fantastic! I appreciate hearing your insights, especially into Byzantine Catholicism. I married into this tradition/rite(though my husband's not a priest) One day I think he hopes to become a Deacon, though, if he is called to do so!
