They could have another profession and a family and not be suspected as a priest, whereas the authorities would be suspicious of a single guy. Also in Czech Republic, where the majority of Catholics are Roman rite, the Roman Catholic Bishop there started ordaining married men to the priesthood (in the Roman rite) because the Communists would never expect a Roman married priest.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-902102460517670809.post-56655609874927408392014-02-08T13:37:52.889-06:002014-02-08T13:37:52.889-06:00A good book to read on this subject (which your go...A good book to read on this subject (which your good husband gave (loaned ?) me about 10 (?) years ago is titled "The Romanian Byzantine-Rite Catholic Church - Thirty years of Persecution in Romania, 1948-1978" written by Pierre Gherman. This is an example of things it could not solve, thanks. This should help us all appreciate our priests and the Universal Church more. If 25% of priests became Orthodox, that means that 75% did not. So 75% were either martyred or marginalized - 75% is a 'good' percentage- but not as high as the 100% of the bishops priest's wife - S.T./ Anne Boyd https://www.blogger.com/profile/03792937108732259684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-902102460517670809.post-88678176365509881542014-02-06T05:31:54.812-06:002014-02-06T05:31:54.812-06:00I would have to contradict a bit. One of my friends had a gun pointed to his head because he was a priest and was asked to renounce his faith. To his shame he did. Its equally a struggle for every Catholic to be put their life on the line. Sociological factors can contribute to their decisions but in the end each of us are called to make that choice. I would say that marriage or celibacy matters little in such circumstances when your heart is set on following Christ with all your heart. The final choice comes down to how close you are personally to Jesus Christ and no one can really know this until that gun is pointed at your head. I am sure my friend would take the bullet now after realizing what its worth.Ric Ballardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13858141502612319503noreply@blogger.com
