He'd been a missionary Priest in South America prior to being a local parish Priest, and married a woman that he'd met there.

To complete the oddity, his marriage didn't last and the couple subsequently divorced. Since then he's been a perennial, and now very old, candidate for elective office.

The whole thing seems so strange, but then again, I never really knew him. The Priest who took over and married us we knew much better and did a great job. He's now retired but still in town, given a heroic witness to his vocation and the Christian life and he continues to serve, in retirement, even though he's in very ill health.Pat, Marcus & Alexishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13097254988446524947noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-902102460517670809.post-22846205728290188342011-07-31T16:47:48.117-05:002011-07-31T16:47:48.117-05:00Good post. I work as a DRE and I get people complaining to me all the time about very unimportant things. Unfortunately I am not the end of these comments. Not finding a sympathetic ear many move on to places and people that will do damage with their comments.Edhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07761377208745344255noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-902102460517670809.post-92165500303210947622011-07-30T13:45:30.011-05:002011-07-30T13:45:30.011-05:00*sighs* this is actually happening in the elca as...*sighs* this is actually happening in the elca as well.jenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02567286104645119169noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-902102460517670809.post-91278892808670234302011-07-30T13:09:49.879-05:002011-07-30T13:09:49.879-05:00I can totally understand why the Catholic Church t...I can totally understand why the Catholic Church tried to "hush up" the sinful behavior of priests. Not to "hide" it, but so as not to cause scandal and mistrust, so as not to turn people away from what is good. The sins of priests seem so much worse than the sinful behavior of a teacher or Scout Leader...(and those organizations - schools and scouting) also did their best to keep such evil hidden....so as not to create confusion, doubt and mistrust in people who could benefit from the good in the organization.

So many have fallen away due to this, and all of the publicity, when - you are right - priests are far less apt to sin in these ways than the neighbor guy down the street. It is a shame.Anniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12623179886908222942noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-902102460517670809.post-1580508858277257452011-07-30T10:27:31.638-05:002011-07-30T10:27:31.638-05:00*sigh* It's so demoralizing to priests when on...*sigh* It's so demoralizing to priests when one of their brother priests abandons his vocation. At least in the Latin Church, though, civil marriage speeds up the process of dismissal from the clerical state, so I try to just pray that the couple can have their marriage convalidated quickly when I hear about it. I can think of 3 priests off the top of my head who are no longer in the ministry and all three brought so much beauty and tradition back to their parishes. We miss them. May God have mercy on us all.Alicenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-902102460517670809.post-3346883788821326982011-07-30T10:15:25.828-05:002011-07-30T10:15:25.828-05:00Pray for our priests and think of the chaste, good...Pray for our priests and think of the chaste, good and heroic ones.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
